We have made it back to La Suisse yesterday afternoon. What a lovely time we've had in La France for a week in the Alps! I think I may have cheese fondue and wine still flowing in my veins...
Because we don't have a car in La Suisse (thanks to the wonderful public transport system here), going away on holidays this year required a bit of organisation...especially since we wanted to take Alf with us. Last time we went away to Yorkshire without him, the landlady said he did not eat for 2 days and sulked for the whole week...
So off we all went last Saturday on a bus, two trains, a subway, a boat and a taxi to the French ski resort of Morzine in the French Alps (it only took 5h30 actually, not too bad!)

Leaving La Suisse behind... |
The weather wasn't great that day so the few photos I took on the boat from Lausanne to Thonon-les-Bains look a bit grim...
I must admit, the only reason we chose to holiday in Morzine was that we could rent a studio from a family friend for next to nothing... Morzine is quite a well known ski resort (not that we knew about it before June this year) and although we are not keen on skiing, we do like the mountains in the summer so we thought... pourquoi pas??
Looking down on Morzine ... and still seeing La Suisse! |
Not knowing what to expect from a ski resort-type place, we were pleasantly surprised with Morzine. Yes, it is VERY touristy (and full of Brits...no comment) but it has managed to remain quite quaint while having all the facilities you may want to have nearby during your holidays. That's what we were after really as no one wants to trek 8kms to the nearest supermarket... A church, a market square and a little river...a picture perfect French village!
Most of the buildings are chalets (or built in a similar style out of wood) giving the whole village a very nice alpine feel. Blocks of flats don't come much nicer than this...
Our home away from Home for a week |
So hiking we did, but we also indulged in a lot of eating and a bit of shopping (that'll be me!). I will be writing a few more posts about our adventures in Morzine to share with you the highlights of our holidays... Watch this space!
